OUR VETS

Dr Kate Lloyd - Veterinarian

MainPic

Kate is one of the partners of the practice. Kate graduated from Melbourne University with honours in 1997 and after working in mixed practice for 12 months she decided to concentrate her career on small animals.

Kate spent some time as a locum vet in various parts of England then returned to Melbourne to look for her own practice. She purchased Altona Veterinary Clinic in 2001 with Dr Rod Sharpin.

In 2004, Kate completed a post-graduate course in small animal surgery that taught all the latest surgical techniques and advances.

Kate has since had two baby boys - Nicholas who was born in 2005 and Will who was born in 2008 but she is back working part-time because she loves it so much (in her own words!). Kate runs staff training sessions once a week to ensure all the nursing staff are up to date with their knowledge and can thus provide the best service and advice to our clients.

Kate has a red and white boxer called Sachi, which means happiness in Japanese. Sachi has the most beautiful, expressive face and she loves the boys. She has become a great jogging companion and loves her weekly play dates at the clinic with the other staff dogs!

Dr Rod Sharpin BSc BVSc

MainPic

Rod graduated from Vet Science at the University of Queensland in 1996 after completing a science degree in human pathology at the University of Melbourne.

After a few years as a small animal and equine vet in Bendigo, Rod worked in England and became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. On return from England, he and Dr Kate Lloyd purchased the Altona Vet Clinic in January 2001.

His main interests include orthopaedic surgery and radiographic imaging, while also having a keen interest in practice management. 'My goal is to provide a caring and friendly clinic that provides our patients with the best veterinary care possible' and 'Everybody should smile'… he is heard to preach!! Rod's dog Arthur is a rather large red and white boxer who loves eating, digging and sitting on you!

Rod's interests outside the Vet world include skiing, scuba diving and of course AFL. (Don't mention Hawthorn or you will never get out of the consult room.)

Dr Adam Campbell BVSc (Hons)

MainPic

Adam Graduated from Melbourne in 1997 with honours and after working in mixed practice for 4 years decided to concentrate on small animals. Adam spent 3 years working in England and gained vital experience in running a veterinary clinic and also in small 'furry' medicine and surgery including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents.

Adam has spent the last 4 years working in small animal practice in Glenhuntly before coming across the bridge to work in Altona. Kate and Adam both grew up in the same town in NSW and graduated together in 1997 from Melbourne. He became a partner of Altona Vet Clinic in October 2009.

Adam completed a year long postgraduate course in 2006 in small animal medicine but also has a keen interest in all aspects of small animal surgery.

His interests outside of work are fishing, AFL, tennis and cricket (really anything with a bat or ball). In the last few years Adam and his wife Sally have had their hands full with two bubbly daughters Olivia and Georgia and a 5 year old Lab called Wolfgang.

Dr Shelley Buttigieg BVSc

MainPic

Shelley Buttigieg has been working at our clinic since December 2005.

Shelley graduated from Melbourne University in December 2000 and has spent the last 10 years in small animal practice. 2 ½ of those years were spent living and working in the UK where she gained loads of experience with dogs, cats and small furries i.e. rabbits and guinea pigs while managing to see a bit of Europe at the same time!

Shelley's interests include small animal internal medicine and dermatology. Outside work hours she enjoys travelling, belly dancing (yes that's right, belly dancing) and spending time with her 2 cats Pepsi and Max and her latest addition Beau (pictured on left).

Shelley is expecting her second baby at the end of the year so is taking maternity leave. We would like to wish her all the best with the new bub!
